HONOLULU – The University of Hawaii Warrior volleyball team will play an intrasquad scrimmage at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at Waikea High School. There will be no admission charge for the scrimmage, but donations can be made to the American Heart Association on behalf of former UH swimmer and Waiakea graduate Peter “Frank” Chi who passed away last month.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase our team to fans on the Big Island,” said UH Head Coach Charlie Wade in a press release.

UH players and coaches will also be available for autographs following the match.

Wade enters his fourth season at the helm of the men’s volleyball team and brings with him a veteran group of players.

Hawaii opens the season hosting BYU in a pair of matches on Jan. 4 -5.

Filipino hoops

Shipman Gym is looking to host a filipino baseketball tournament Nov. 23-25. Those eligible to play have to be of full Filipino decent. Anyone interested in participating in the tournament is asked to call Leo at 640-5929.

Ka‘u baseball coach

The Ka’u High School athletic program has re-opened its head baseball coach position. Anyone interested in applying for the position can pick up an application at the school office. Deadline to apply is Nov. 30.
